I have just found out that Geocities is closing down later this year. Crap, all my fics are posted there. I am going to have to find another site, preferably free, to host my site. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to start moving my fics as soon as I can so I don't lose them. I am going to start looking around but I thought that maybe someone could recommend a good place. Thanx :-)

I don't have any suggestions about a website, but have you considered a fic LJ(or do you have one already?)? To archive them until you can find a site you like?

That might be an idea just until I can find another hosting site. Thanks Maddie.

Fanfiction.net! It rocks as you have an actual story page, it's well organized, and they have search options etc Here's my page, so you can see how they are set up:

I like fanfiction.net, I used to post my fics there but they suspended me due to the adult ratings of many of my fics. I think they wanted the site to be a little more family friendly. That's what they told me anyway. Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe they might allow some of my PG fics in.
:-) BTW, thanks for the link, I love reading your fics as much as I love your art.

Aw :( They suspended your account? :/ Even under a mature content rating? I hope they don't do that to me! I have one on their that is pretty dirty! 0o And thanks for the compliment! =D You are so good to me! XD

if you'd like to send me a copy of all your works, I can offer you a back up on your story page on wwomb

Thanks Peja, I will start sending you some. I wanted to archive some more of my stories in WWOMB. I really appreciate it. :-D

Thanks so much. I will let everyone know where I end up. :-)
I just wish that Yahoo would change their minds about closing Geocities down. *sigh*

Yes. I thought it had always been successful. It really is too bad.

I've been going through all my favorites folders looking for the links with GeoCities (damn them!) sites so that I could get in touch with the writers personally, as a worried reader.

I have two suggestions. First is the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) GeoCities Rescue Project. With the writers/site owners permission, the OTW will not only offer space for the fanfic, they'll even do the work of archiving, if need be. They just need, yeah...permission. Right now, it's all about saving what we can. Here's the link, and any help passing this information around will be more than appreciated.

My other suggestion is a journal at Dreamwidth. I noticed that someone had suggested a LJ for fic, and that would work, too, but I think that DW offers a better alternative for a couple of reasons. First, one of the owners/developers is in fandom, and the second reason is that DW has a much larger entry size - 300,000 characters, in fact. You can post a fairly long story (17,000 - 20,000 or more) in ONE ENTRY. I think that this is sooooooo cool. Anyway.

If you like the Dreamwidth account idea and you need an invite, let me know and I'll send you one.

Thanks so much for the time I've spent enjoying the words you've written.

Thanks so much, I am going to check the rescue project out. I am hoping to be able to rebuild my site with another web host. I have started to save my stories onto disk and will try to upload it all as soon as I can.
Thank you for the kind words and I will let you know as soon as I open the new site. :-)

I meant to post as Lady Midath. duhhh....

No problem. :) Anyway, I got the Dreamwidth idea from Polly Bywater, because that's what she did. You probably know her, but if you don't, here is a link to her Dreamwidth account and how she handled moving her fiction from her GeoCities site. It's all tagged and organized by fandom and it really looks good and it's really easy to find fic. Also, I mentioned the large entries. I'm reading one of her stories right now, and it has 38,000 words and it's all in one post! I think that's one of the coolest things about Dreamwidth. The offer of the invite code remains, but I understand if you've made other arrangements.

Anyhow - good luck to you moving your site and I'll be very happy to have you let me know where your fic goes to live. :) I'm just glad that it will be going to live somewhere!

Anna :)

Thanks, I am definately going to check Dreamwidth out. They sound very fic friendly which is good. LJ is not as fic friendly and they have actually censored others in the past, that is why I decided not to post all of my stuff here. I know Polly Bywater, :-) but I did not know she was with DW.
I think I will take you up on your very kind offer so that I will have a couple of places in which to post just in case. Once again, thank you so much, It's hard to lose my Geocities site, I have been there for so long now, but this is the decision that they have made. Sad to think that the net is shrinking for those that just want to share their stories and have a bit of fun.

I can't even imagine how hard it is for you right now - losing your site after so long, and it's such a nice site. You had done so much with it. I really feel bad about it. :( I'm trying to get in touch with as many as I can about the OTW offer.

So - www.dreamwidth.org - I like it. Try it out. You can use this code - ESBJB9DY7WGNGAAADQEN - to start your own journal. Still - you'll probably want to read the ToS, but I think that they're very reasonable. Let me know what you decide - I'm very interested. :)

*hugs*
